Set up unattended access using a custom installer
You can generate a custom unattended access installer and run it on different devices. This installation method is particularly useful when you want to set up unattended access with the same settings on multiple devices (all of the selected settings are saved within the installer). Additionally, you can download an MSI for Windows to mass deploy unattended access throughout your corporate network.
The unattended access installer has to be run directly on the target device.
After a new SetMe version is released, any installers created before that will continue to work as expected allowing to set up unattended access of the latest version. Nevertheless, we recommend that you create a new installer every 4 to 6 months.
Take the following steps to set up unattended access using a custom installer:
- Step 1. Generate unattended access installer
- Step 2. Run the unattended installer on the target device
Step 1. Generate unattended access installer
1. Sign in to SetMe Downloads and choose Unattended setup in the navigation pane.
2. Under Target operating system, select the desired OS type.
3. Optional: To install unattended access with custom settings, click Show unattended access settings and select any options under Unattended properties, Session settings, Installation settings, and Access options. To change Access options, click Edit in the Access options section.
Click Set as default if you want to use the selected settings as default for all future unattended installer configurations. Each user within your company will have their individual default settings.
4. Windows: Click Generate Windows EXE or Generate Windows MSI depending on which type of the installer you need.
The EXE format is suitable for installing unattended access on individual devices, while MSI works best for mass deployment. Whichever option you choose, both installer types can be used multiple times.
macOS: Click Generate for macOS.
The installer will start downloading to your device automatically.
The user who created the unattended access installer becomes the default manager for any unattended devices configured with that installer.
Step 2. Run the unattended installer on the target device
1. Run the installer on the target device.
2. macOS: Allow access to macOS system features after a corresponding popup appears.
3. If you've chosen to enable the option Allow sign in to the unattended device without knowing its username and password, enter the remote user's OS account credentials.
Once the installation is completed, a new unattended device will be added to your unattended list. If you used an installer created by someone else, the device might not show up in your unattended list. To view it in your list, you will need to have access granted by the device's manager.
